HMY reinforces its commitment to sustainability up to 2020

Sustainability is one of the central pillars on which HMY undertakes its activity. Our past, present and future commitment in this area is the engine that drives the growth of a company like HMY, which is an international leader in global services and innovation for retail.

The commitment to the sustainable development of HMY is specified in our new 2018 – 2020 strategic framework, on which we will base our growth and expansion strategy for that same period of time.

In this framework, we have opted to integrate sustainability as an essential value of our development and as a key element to meet one of our main objectives: to achieve long-term commercial success by reducing the environmental impact produced by our activity and promoting a positive effect on our professionals, customers, suppliers, the environment and society as a whole.

Innovation also plays an essential role in HMY’s activity, and this is, together with sustainability, a cross-cutting theme throughout the company. Through these levers, which are well defined in our new strategic framework, we commit ourselves to continue working transparently and ethically, achieving sustainable and responsible growth with the environment and people.

Committed to the environment

HMY’s respect and commitment to the environment lies in applying innovative processes with the aim of creating eco-efficient solutions and designs. An objective that translates into cleaner production, environmental management systems, measures oriented towards the product life cycle and preparing follow-up reports.

Thus, our commitment to raw materials that come from less polluting and more abundant sources, which allow them to be reintroduced into the production chain through recycling, stands out. We also pay special attention to the design of our materials and packaging to achieve, with lower energy consumption, more efficient products and a longer life.

In addition, we are implementing, and will continue to implement, sustainable measures in each of our facilities and production processes in order to reduce our environmental footprint through reducing waste, energy and water consumption and CO2 emissions produced both in the production processes and in managing the transportation. As a result, the 15 factories that we have scattered around the world have received numerous environmental certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, SMETA, etc.) Following this direction, we aim to increase the consumption of clean and renewable energies each year by 5%, as well as reduce our carbon footprint by 15% in the next 3 years.

Committed to people

Our commitment to sustainable development for society is based on promoting, at a global level, values such as access to health, safe working conditions, adequate housing, nutritious food, education, non-discrimination, information and participation. In this respect, we are working on the launch of the HMY Foundation to promote and develop solidarity projects through different NGOs.

This policy is applied to our more than 4,000 professionals, promoting organisational structures that encourage the best balance between personal and professional life and guaranteeing them, throughout the world, a system of social protection, health care and continuous improvement training plans.

In addition, at HMY we seek to support the integration of people belonging to various groups at risk of exclusion.

Furthermore, in accordance with our policy of fair and ethical treatment, we look for suppliers among small local businesses, supporting policies and procedures with incentives and special conditions that serve to advance the care of people. Thus, they are also provided with training in their engineering, production and transport processes to generate a positive cascade effect.

Finally, in relation to our customers, we are committed to providing them with effective solutions in terms of ergonomics, safety and duration in which the best technological advances are linked to the simplicity of use and thus approaching their real needs.
