HMY is collaborating with Auchan Retail Spain in the installation of accessible cash payment points

Auchan Retail Spain has taken a step forward in its universal accessibility
policy, by installing accessible cash payment points for people with reduced mobility in six of their Alcampo hypermarkets. The installation was made by HMY, an international leader in global services and innovation for the retail sector.

These ergonomic cash points incorporate an electric mechanism which enables the regulation of the height of the counter for easier access to the tape and the chute by pressing a button.

They are available in Alcampo stores in Esplugues de Llobregat, Alicante, La Orotava and La Laguna (Tenerife), Vigo (Pontevedra) and La Coruña, and are part of a range of accessibility solutions made available to customers of Auchan Retail Spain, such as adaptable shopping carts for wheelchairs,
magnetic induction loops, a video interpretation system for sign language, pictogram panels for children suffering from ASD.

With this project, HMY is showing its ongoing commitment to the transformation of retail sales points, as well as its commitment to society, by adapting them to a comprehensive range of customers.

Annja Mostrup, Marketing Director for HMY, says that “this collaboration with Auchan Retail represents another step forward in our company’s commitment to people and enables us to continue progressing towards our objective which is to guarantee the comfort of employees and people with reduced mobility”.

For Luis Mariano Gómez, Client Relations, Services and Cash Point Director for Auchan Retail Spain: “As a human and responsible economic player our aim is for business without barriers which is why we are unceasing in our efforts to provide our centres with accessibility solutions which help all our customers to be able to shop on equal terms”

There is a commitment to sustainability

To be suitable for people with reduced mobility, a cash point should have a number of requirements to comply with the Basic SUA 9 Document on User Safety and Accessibility in the Technical Code for Buildings. This requires the cash point’s counter to be located at a maximum height of 0.85 cm and the there should be an obstacle-free area before and after using the cash point measuring at least 1.5m in diameter.
